New Mothers at Risk
Women who have histories of depression or other psychiatric disorders are 27 times more likely to attempt suicide soon after becoming mothers than are women without such histories, researchers report in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology. The researchers also found a six-fold increase in suicide attempts among new mothers who have histories of substance abuse.
